Getting started
Five things worth doing on your first day, each in the order you do them. It takes about two minutes to read, and you will not need all five.
Create an account
One account covers everything: work, the marketplace and the community. What you choose at the start only decides where you land.
- Open diasporahub.com and choose Create account.
- Choose what brings you here: hiring, looking for work, or buying and selling. You can change it later in Your account.
- Fill in your name, email and a password, and choose the country you live in.
- Open the email we send you and use the confirmation link in it. If it has not arrived after a few minutes, look in your spam folder, then ask for a new one.
The email address you confirm here is the one you sign in with, on the website and in the app. Use one you will keep.
Activate your access
Access is bought in the DiasporaHub app, on the App Store or on Google Play. The same subscription opens the website, so you pay once.
- Install DiasporaHub on your phone. The website shows a code you can point your phone camera at.
- Sign in with the same email you confirmed.
- Subscribe in the app. Your phone charges it through your App Store or Google Play account.
- Come back to the website and choose "I have subscribed, check again". Everything opens.
You can cancel any time from your App Store or Google Play account, and you keep access until the month you paid for ends.
Post a job
Anyone can hire. Turn Hiring on in Your account, add your company once, and after that a job takes a couple of minutes.
- In Your account, turn Hiring on, then fill in your company name and website.
- Choose Post a job, and pick the type: full-time, part-time, or freelance and project work.
- Say whether the work is on site, hybrid or remote. A remote job needs no city.
- For anything that is not remote, start typing the city and pick it from the list, so people searching that city find you.
- Write the pay: an hourly, daily, monthly or yearly figure, or a project budget. Then read the preview and publish.
The pay is optional, but write it. It is the first thing people read, and adverts without it get far fewer applicants.
Post a listing or a service
The marketplace is for things you are selling and for work you do: accountants, lawyers, translators, drivers, builders, hairdressers.
- Go to the marketplace and choose Sell.
- Add the photographs first. The first one is the cover, so make it the clearest.
- Write a plain title, the price, and the condition if you are selling an object.
- For a service, choose Services and then the kind of work you do, so people can filter for it.
- Check the city, then publish. You can edit it or mark it sold at any time.
Buyers see your city, never your address. Arrange where to meet in a message once you have agreed.
Verify your identity
A verified badge next to your name tells the other person you are who you say you are. You need it before you can start a new conversation.
- Go to Your account, then Verification.
- Photograph your passport, identity card or driving licence, with all four corners in the frame and nothing covered.
- Send it. A person on the DiasporaHub team reads it, usually within one or two days.
- If it is not accepted you are told why, and for most reasons you can send another straight away.
The file is stored privately, only the team members who review documents can open it, and it is deleted 30 days after the decision.
If something is wrong
Every job, listing, post and profile has Report in its menu. Reports go to the DiasporaHub team, and the person you report is never told who reported them.
